On Aug. 26, the Archuleta County Democrats will celebrate women's suffrage and the 105th anniversary of the 19th amendment.
The event at the Liberty Theatre will feature a 7-minute short documentary on women's history followed by a screening of the 2015 film Suffragette.
After the film, door prizes will be awarded. Each ticket-holder for the event will receive one entry for the door prizes. Additional door-prize entries will be available for a donation.
Guests are encouraged to wear white to honor the original suffragettes.
Synopsis: Suffragette is a powerful drama about the women who were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality in early-20th-century Britain. The stirring story centers on Maud (played by Carey Mulligan), a working wife and mother whose life is forever changed when she is secretly recruited to join the U.K.’s growing suffragette movement. Galvanized by the outlaw fugitive Emmeline Pankhurst (Meryl Streep), Maud becomes an activist for the cause alongside women from all walks of life. Inspired by true events, Suffragette is a moving drama exploring the passion and heartbreak of those who risked all they had for women’s right to vote—their jobs, their homes, their children, and even their lives.

“Freakier Friday,” a sequel to the beloved 2003 film with a multigenerational twist starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, will be released in theaters nationwide August 8, 2025. In the film, Curtis and Lohan reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman. The story picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice. “Freakier Friday” is directed by Nisha Ganatra and based on the book “Freaky Friday” by Mary Rodgers. The film, which also stars Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Rosalind Chao, Chad Michael Murray, and Mark Harmon, is produced by Kristin Burr, Andrew Gunn, and Jamie Lee Curtis, with Nathan Kelly, Ann Marie Sanderlin, and Lindsay Lohan serving as executive producers.

A descriptive time-lapse journey about the magical, mysterious and medicinal world of fungi and their power to heal, sustain and contribute to the regeneration of life on Earth that began 3.5 billion years ago. Join other mushroom enthusiasts to view this documentary at Liberty Theatre on September 18.

A few factors we have to consider when choosing a movie:
We can request films we would like to show, but we don't always get what we want.

Because we are a one screen theatre, this can sometimes limit what we can show in conjunction with the first run of a film. We sometimes can only show that one movie and are unable to have two movies running in the same week. This being restricted by the movie studios we contract with for the films.

Runtime of the movie we show makes an impact on whether or not we can show one or two movies in a week.

Sometimes due to a limited # of theaters some movies can run at, we are mostly likely the last on the list to receive a movie, meaning we have to wait a bit longer for a select few movies.
