Beyond the Embers
A Special Documentary Screening & Community Conversation
Last year, Pagosa Springs experienced two devastating natural disasters just 60 days apart—a rapidly spreading wildfire followed by record-breaking floods. As our community continues to recover and rebuild, one important question remains:
How can we better prepare for the extremes ahead?
Join us at the Liberty Theatre for Beyond the Embers, a powerful new documentary produced by Christi Bode/Moxiecran Media that explores the challenges our community has faced and the resilience that has emerged in response.
This special evening is more than a film screening—it's an opportunity to come together as neighbors, learn from recent events, and engage in an important conversation about the future of Pagosa Springs.
🎶 Doors open at 5:30 PM with live music by Connie the Soldier
🎬 Film and program: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
🗣️ A panel of local community leaders will follow the film, offering insights and discussing preparedness, recovery, and what comes next.
Whether you lived through these events firsthand or simply care deeply about our community's future, Beyond the Embers promises an evening of reflection, education, and hope.
Join the conversation. Honor our resilience. Help shape what comes next.

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF ARCHULETA COUNTY PRESENTS: JOIN OR DIE
SPECIAL SCREENING | 1H 33M | PG 13 | 2024
JULY 9
The League of Women Voters of Archuleta County is pleased to present the award-winning documentary Join or Die! as part of Pagosa’s 250/150 week of celebration. This entertaining film shows the importance of civic engagement in maintaining a healthy democracy—and a healthy mind and body! After the screening, we will have a “joining fair” featuring key local nonprofit agencies. Money raised will fund the nonpartisan League’s central mission here locally: to facilitate community dialogue, increase election participation, and educate the electorate on local issues of importance.
Join or Die is a film about why you should join a club—and why the fate of America depends on it. Follow the story of America's civic unraveling through the journey of Robert Putnam, whose legendary "Bowling Alone" research into American community decline may hold the answers to our democracy's present crisis.

MONTEREY POP - 50th Anniversary in 4K
ROCK TUESDAY | 1H 19M | RATED R | 1968
JULY 21
On a beautiful June weekend in 1967, at the beginning of the Summer of Love, the Monterey International Pop Festival roared forward, capturing a decade’s spirit and ushering in a new era of rock and roll. Monterey featured career-making performances by Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Otis Redding, but they were just a few of the performers in a wildly diverse lineup that included Simon and Garfunkel, the Mamas and the Papas, the Who, the Byrds, Hugh Masekela, and the extraordinary Ravi Shankar. With his characteristic vérité style—and a camera crew that included the likes of Albert Maysles and Richard Leacock—D. A. Pennebaker captured it all, immortalizing moments that have become legend: Pete Townshend smashing his guitar, Jimi Hendrix burning his, Mama Cass watching Janis Joplin’s performance in awe. This fiftieth-anniversary edition presents Monterey Pop in a new 4K restoration

CLOCKWORK ORANGE
THROWBACK THURSDAY | 2H 17M | RATED R | 1971
JULY 23
A Clockwork Orange is Stanley Kubrick’s 1971 dystopian classic about Alex DeLarge, a charismatic gang leader in a decaying Britain whose violent pleasures lead him into an experimental state program aimed at curing criminal behavior. Known for its striking visuals, use of classical music, and provocative themes of free will, morality, and state control, it remains a disturbingly brilliant, thought‑provoking work lauded for Malcolm McDowell’s performance and Kubrick’s artistry.

A few factors we have to consider when choosing a movie:
We can request films we would like to show, but we don't always get what we want.
-
Because we are a one screen theatre, this can sometimes limit what we can show in conjunction with the first run of a film. We sometimes can only show that one movie and are unable to have two movies running in the same week. This being restricted by the movie studios we contract with for the films.
-
Runtime of the movie we show makes an impact on whether or not we can show one or two movies in a week.
-
Sometimes due to a limited # of theaters some movies can run at, we are mostly likely the last on the list to receive a movie, meaning we have to wait a bit longer for a select few movies.
Please understand our intention is to provide a larger variety of movies for all ages. If you have any suggestions or ideas please don't hesitate to contact us.
